Section of OR-234 Near Eagle Point to Close for Two Weeks for Repairs

EAGLE POINT, Ore. (Jun. 10, 2026) — A section of Oregon 234 near Eagle Point will be closed for approximately two weeks beginning July 6 as crews repair pavement that sank following a major reconstruction project completed last year.

The Oregon Department of Transportation said the closure will begin at 8 a.m. Monday, July 6, affecting a half-mile stretch of Oregon 234, also known as Sams Valley Highway, between Modoc Road and Dodge Road. The highway will remain closed around the clock while repairs are underway.

According to ODOT, the newly installed road base from an extensive pavement rehabilitation project completed in 2025 settled unexpectedly near milepost 15, causing the highway surface to sink and crack. Additional reconstruction is required to restore the roadway.

Visar Construction has been contracted to rebuild the affected road base and repave the damaged section of highway. The work is expected to be completed by July 20.

During the closure, motorists will be directed to use a detour via Dodge Road and Antioch Road. Travelers may also use Antioch Road or Modoc Road south to Table Rock Road to connect with Oregon 140 and Oregon 62 near White City.

Transportation officials warned drivers to expect congestion along the detour routes and nearby roadways. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, use caution when navigating the area and consider alternate routes to avoid delays.

Until repair work begins, drivers traveling through the area should remain alert for the existing sunken pavement conditions.

ODOT encouraged travelers to monitor current road conditions and closure information through the project webpage for updates on the Oregon 234 pavement repair effort.
