PORTLAND, Ore. (Jun. 1, 2026) — As part of the nationwide “Freedom 250” initiative marking America’s 250th birthday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon reported collecting more than 2,000 donated food items for local food pantries across the state, with a significant share directed to Southern Oregon communities.
U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford said the effort reflects a broader push by U.S. Attorney’s Offices nationwide to support local communities through gift-in-kind charity drives tied to the national celebration.
“I am incredibly proud of our staff for coming together to support families in our local communities through this food drive,” Bradford said in a statement. “Their generosity and commitment to service reflect the very best of public service.”
While contributions were distributed across Portland and Eugene, officials emphasized the impact in Medford, where the office delivered more than 300 pounds of food to ACCESS. The organization operates food assistance programs and helps supply more than 30 emergency food pantries throughout Jackson County, serving low-income individuals and families facing food insecurity.
The donation adds to a broader network of support in Southern Oregon, where ACCESS coordinates food distribution to dozens of partner sites and emergency pantries across the region.
Elsewhere in the state, the Portland office delivered more than 600 pounds of food to Neighborhood House, which serves more than 850 households each month. The Eugene office contributed nearly 500 pounds to Food for Lane County, equivalent to roughly 395 meals, according to organizers.
The Freedom 250 campaign is part of a series of community-focused initiatives by federal offices nationwide aimed at commemorating the country’s semiquincentennial through local service projects.
