GRANTS PASS, Ore. (May. 14, 2026) — A man was arrested Wednesday morning after deputies say he led law enforcement on a pursuit through parts of Josephine County before fleeing on foot and later surrendering.
According to the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to stop a black pickup truck towing a trailer at about 5:20 a.m. on Rogue River Highway near Gordon Way. Authorities said the driver failed to yield and began eluding deputies.
Investigators said the pursuit continued even after a tire on the trailer blew out. The vehicle eventually traveled onto Savage Creek Road, where deputies terminated the pursuit for safety reasons after the driver allegedly crossed into oncoming lanes.
Deputies continued searching the area along Savage Creek Road and later found the pickup stopped in the middle of the roadway. Authorities said the driver fled on foot before surrendering a short time later.
The sheriff’s office identified the suspect as Scott Ireys. Officials said Ireys was lodged at the Josephine County Adult Jail on charges of felony eluding, misdemeanor eluding, reckless driving, third-degree escape and a Jackson County felony warrant.
Authorities also clarified that, contrary to initial reports, no child was inside the vehicle during the incident.
All suspects are believed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
