Lack of Snow Prompts Another Operations Pause at Mt. Ashland

MT. ASHLAND, Ore. (Feb. 28, 2026) — Mt. Ashland Ski Area announced it will pause ski area operations beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, citing low snowpack, warm weather and rain in the forecast.

The closure, effective Feb. 28, will remain in place “until we receive substantial snowfall,” according to a statement from the ski area.

“It’s been a challenging year to say the least with our snowfall. We are beyond sad to have to deliver the news of another pause,” the statement said. “We are awaiting more snow and watching the long term forecast in hopes of announcing a reopening in the near future. In the meantime we will work to keep spreading the stoke any way that we can.”

The pause means several immediate cancellations. Twilight skiing scheduled for Friday night has been called off. Weekend events, including Diva Daze and the Ladies Rail Jam, are also canceled.

Officials said lift tickets, rentals and lessons purchased for upcoming days will be refunded. Guests who made purchases are advised to monitor their email inboxes for refund information.

For families participating in the School & Youth Group Learn-to-Ski Program, the ski area said its School Group Program Coordinator will contact volunteer coordinators if program dates need to be adjusted.

Despite the setback, the ski area expressed appreciation for community support during a season marked by inconsistent snowfall.

“We are so grateful for the countless guests who approached us with kind words of encouragement and appreciation for our Mountain. When we did get snow that powder was something special. Please keep up those snowdances!” the statement read.

“Pray for snow and we will keep you all updated!”
