Medford Airport Breaks Passenger Record as Growth Fuels Future Expansion

MEDFORD, Ore. (Jan. 14, 2026) — Rogue Valley International–Medford Airport (MFR) set an all-time passenger record in 2025, surpassing 1.1 million travelers and marking a milestone year for Southern Oregon’s primary commercial airport, according to Airport Director Amber Judd.

The airport served 1,100,027 passengers in 2025, the highest total in its history, with consecutive record-setting months from June through November. August 2025 established a new all-time monthly high, with 115,230 passengers passing through the terminal.

Judd credited a combination of regional growth, airline investments and operational improvements for the surge.

“Many factors contributed in large part to our success this year: The continued growth of our region, Alaska’s additional service to San Diego and additional frequencies on other existing routes, the up-gauging of aircraft that can accommodate more passengers per flight, and the daily efforts of everyone that works either for, or at, the airport,” Judd said in an interview with Medford Alert News.

Airline service shifts after Avelo exit

The record year comes amid changes in airline service on the West Coast. Following Avelo Airlines’ departure from the region, Breeze Airways has expanded into several markets previously served by the carrier.

Asked whether MFR is actively working with Breeze or other airlines to strengthen West Coast connectivity, Judd said discussions are ongoing.

“We are always working with our airline partners, including Breeze and others, on new or additional air service at MFR. This includes service to/from Burbank that Avelo previously flew prior to their exit from the West coast,” she said.

While airport officials continue to pursue expanded service, Judd emphasized that no new routes or aircraft announcements are imminent.

“We are constantly working with our existing airline partners and other airlines that do not currently serve MFR, on new routes, aircraft, etc… but we have nothing to announce at this time,” she said.

Terminal expansion timeline

Looking ahead, 2026 is expected to be a pivotal year as planning advances on the airport’s long-anticipated terminal expansion. The project is intended to modernize the facility and accommodate continued passenger growth.

“Design is well-underway on our terminal expansion project. At this time we expect to start construction sometime in 2027. More to come later in 2026,” Judd said.

Airport hotel project canceled

One long-planned development near the airport will not be moving forward. A proposed Hilton-branded hotel at the southwest corner of the airport, near Biddle Road and Lawnsdale Road, has been shelved.

“Unfortunately, the hotel developer has officially backed out of the project,” Judd said.

Despite that setback, airport officials remain focused on sustaining momentum after a historic year. With passenger numbers at record levels and expansion plans advancing, MFR appears poised to play an increasingly significant role in the region’s transportation and economic landscape.
