White City, Oregon- A White City man was arrested early Sunday after authorities say he fatally stabbed his father Saturday night, prompting a nearly five-hour manhunt through the area.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call around 9:37 p.m. Saturday reporting a stabbing at a mobile home park in the 3600 block of Avenue G. When deputies arrived, they found 72-year-old Edward Dean Rowan suffering from stab wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by deputies and Mercy Flights medics, Rowan was pronounced dead at 10:12 p.m.
The suspect, identified as Rowan’s son, 46-year-old Jason Samuel Rowan, fled the scene before deputies arrived, investigators said. Law enforcement agencies including the Medford Police Department’s K9 and Drone Teams, Oregon State Police, and officers from Central Point and Eagle Point assisted in the search.
Shortly after 2:20 a.m., a Jackson County deputy spotted the suspect walking along Avenue C near 28th Street. After initially being uncooperative, Rowan was arrested without incident at 2:26 a.m. He was booked into the Jackson County Jail on a charge of second-degree murder.
Detectives from the Jackson County Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit — which includes members of OSP, JCSO, Medford, Central Point, and Ashland police departments, as well as the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office — are leading the investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Authorities offered condolences to the family and friends of the victim, noting that next of kin have been notified. No further information was immediately released.
