RCC Launches Online Pre-Dental Hygiene Course to Boost Student Success

Medford, Oregon- Rogue Community College is expanding its dental career pathways with the launch of a new online course this fall designed to better prepare students for its competitive Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene programs.

Beginning fall term, RCC will offer DH100 Pre-Dental Hygiene, an introductory course that familiarizes students with essential dental hygiene concepts. The course covers basic dental terminology, methods for assessing a patient’s oral health, and strategies for developing appropriate treatment plans. The course is fully online and aimed at prospective applicants to RCC’s dental programs.

Students who complete the course can strengthen their applications to the college’s limited-entry programs by earning additional points: five points for an A grade, three for a B, and one for a C.

Meanwhile, applications are currently open through Aug. 15 for the fall 2025 cohort of RCC’s Dental Assisting certificate program, a four-term program running from fall through summer. Prospective students must attend a required information session as part of the application process. The next session will be held virtually via Zoom on Wednesday, Aug. 6 at noon. Applications for RCC’s Dental Hygiene associate degree program, a two-year limited-entry course of study, will open in January 2026 for the fall 2026 cohort. Students must complete a minimum of 44 prerequisite credits prior to applying.
