Bend, Oregon- Authorities have identified the victim in a northeast Bend homicide as 54-year-old Robert Glenn Haston, a resident of Bend.
Haston was found dead on the evening of May 7 after Bend Police responded to a report of a deceased person in the 100 block of NE Emerson Avenue around 7:16 p.m. Officers arriving at the scene located Haston, who had suffered a fatal injury.
While detectives were investigating the death, officers received a report of a trespassing incident in the 600 block of NE Irving Avenue. The caller described a man wearing a backpack running through a yard and acting erratically. Officers located the man, identified as 27-year-old Phillip Matthew Howard Evans of Bend, and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree trespassing.
Further investigation led police to identify Evans as the suspect in Haston’s death. He was arrested and booked into the Deschutes County Jail on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
Detectives are continuing the investigation and have begun serving search warrants in connection with the case. No additional information has been released by authorities at this time.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
