Medford, Oregon- Dick’s Sporting Goods has closed its Public Lands store at Northgate Marketplace in north Medford, and is repurposing the space to expand its adjacent Dick’s Sporting Goods store. The combined store will encompass approximately 90,000 square feet, effectively doubling the size of the existing Dick’s location.
The Northgate Marketplace site, originally opened in 2016 as a dual-branded Dick’s Sporting Goods and Field & Stream store, was later converted into a Public Lands location in 2022. The recent closure aligns with Dick’s broader strategy to scale back its outdoor specialty banners. As of early 2025, only three Public Lands stores remain operational, located in Framingham, Massachusetts; Woodbury, Minnesota; and Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania .
The expanded Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Northgate Marketplace is expected to incorporate select features previously offered by Public Lands, such as specialized gear and services for outdoor activities.
The renovation is underway, with the new store anticipated to open before the 2025 holiday shopping season. During the construction period, the existing Dick’s Sporting Goods store remains open to customers.
Medford Alert reached out to Dick’s Sporting Goods parent company, DSG, for additional information. At this time, they have not provided an official comment on the closure or the expansion plans.
