Beaverton, Oregon — The first Powerball jackpot of 2025, at $328.5 million, has been won by a ticket purchased in the 97006 zip code of Beaverton. The ticket, sold on January 17, was the sole winner in Saturday’s drawing, making it one of the largest lottery prizes in the state’s history.
The winner has one year to claim the prize. Once a claimant comes forward, the process of verifying the ticket and disbursing the funds will take additional time due to security and payment protocols. In Oregon, state law generally requires winners to be publicly identified, with limited exceptions.
Previously, the largest Powerball prize claimed in Oregon was last year’s $1.3 billion jackpot, which was split by a Portland man, his wife, and a friend.
Revenue from Powerball ticket sales benefits state programs, with approximately one-third allocated to initiatives such as education, economic development, veteran services, and state parks. Retailers also benefit, earning commissions on ticket sales and bonuses for selling winning tickets. For instance, a retailer selling a $1 million ticket receives a $10,000 bonus. The location of the Beaverton retailer where the winning ticket was sold will not be disclosed until the winner is confirmed, per security procedures.
The Powerball jackpot was last won in December, when a ticket sold in New York secured a $256 million prize. Powerball is a multi-state lottery available in 44 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The Oregon Lottery advises players to sign the back of their tickets immediately to secure ownership and to consult a financial advisor in the event of a jackpot win.
