Josephine County Fugitive Apprehended in Cambodia After Years on the Run

Josephine County, Oregon– Authorities have successfully apprehended Shawn Christian Higbee, a fugitive wanted on charges of Sodomy 1, following a multi-agency investigation spanning several years.

Higbee, born on May 29, 1983, had been the subject of an arrest warrant issued in Josephine County in 2019. Despite numerous efforts to locate him, Higbee managed to evade capture for years, reportedly fleeing the United States shortly after the warrant was issued.

In recent months, the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office Crimes Analyst, working closely with the United States Marshals Service (USMS), identified Higbee’s whereabouts in Cambodia. Using advanced investigative techniques, the analyst was able to pinpoint his exact location, a critical breakthrough in the case. This information was relayed to the USMS, which coordinated with its international apprehension team to facilitate Higbee’s arrest.

Higbee was taken into custody on December 17, 2024. He is currently being held in a Cambodian jail while awaiting extradition to the United States. Upon his return, Higbee will be transported to the Josephine County Jail to face prosecution for the charges against him.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the circumstances of Higbee’s arrest. Official say this case highlights the collaborative efforts between local law enforcement and federal agencies in addressing international fugitives.

No additional information was released by officials at this time.
