Community Rallies to Support Family After Tragic Loss of Teen Daughter

Medford, Oregon- A local family is grieving the sudden and heartbreaking loss of 17-year-old Serene, who tragically passed away in an ATV accident on December 7.

Serene, a prominent figure in the local equestrian community, was known for her kindness, positivity, and unwavering support of her peers. Her passing has left a void for her family, friends, and the wider community.

Serene, who was preparing for her senior year in Oregon High School Equestrian Teams (OHSET), was deeply cherished as a friend, teammate, and role model. Her enthusiasm for life extended beyond the arena, where she was known for cheering on competitors regardless of their team.

As the holiday season approaches, her family faces the additional challenge of navigating Christmas without their beloved daughter and sister. Serene’s mother has expressed a desire to honor her memory while preserving the holiday spirit for Serene’s four younger siblings.

Serena’s mother hopes to give her kids a chance to heal and find some joy during this difficult time, by taking them on a trip for Christmas, she shared with Medford Alert.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help fund the family’s trip to Disney World and cover additional expenses such as meals during their stay. While the family has made significant progress toward their goal, they are still $6,000 short of fully covering the trip.

The community has also organized events to celebrate Serene’s life and show solidarity with her family. A Candlelight Vigil will be held on Thursday, December 19, at 6:15 p.m. at Logos Public Charter School. In addition, a Celebration of Life for Serene is scheduled for January 24, with details to be announced soon.

For those wishing to support the family, contributions to the GoFundMe campaign and shares on social media can help bring them closer to their goal. Beyond financial contributions, the family appreciates emotional support and prayers during this time.

“Serene was a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew her—beautiful, smart, funny, and a gifted equestrian,” her mother said. “Serene was the kind of person who cheered for everyone—no matter the team you were on, she was there supporting you. Her kindness and unshakeable positivity left a profound impact on those around her, and it’s clear that she will be deeply missed by everyone fortunate enough to call her a friend, teammate, or loved one.”
