Bridge Fire in Butte Falls Causes Over $1,000,000 in Damages

Butte Falls, Oregon- Authorities are investigating a fire that broke out Thursday morning on a bridge near Butte Falls. The fire, reported at 8:00 a.m., occurred on the Fredenburg Road bridge over North Fork Big Butte Creek. Firefighters from Butte Falls Volunteer Fire and Rescue were able to extinguish the fire by 8:30 a.m., preventing it from spreading to the surrounding forest.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) and Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) are leading the joint investigation into the fire’s cause. The incident has resulted in the closure of the Fredenburg Road bridge, which sustained significant damage. Early assessments suggest that repairs or a complete replacement may be necessary. Jackson County Roads and Parks Department is currently evaluating the extent of the damage. Initial estimates place the cost of repairs at over $1,000,000.

Until further notice, Fredenburg Road is closed at the 0.7-mile mark. Local residents are being redirected via a temporary detour established in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management.
