Oregon Department of Forestry Arrives to Help Battle Copperfield Fire

Chiloquin, Oregon- The Oregon Department of Forestry’s (ODF) Klamath-Lake District, in collaboration with federal, state, local, and private entities, is actively responding to the Copperfield Fire, located approximately five miles southeast of Chiloquin, Oregon. The fire, which has grown to about 2000 acres as of 8 p.m. on September 1, presents a high potential for further spread.

Firefighters arrived at the scene around 3:00 p.m. today and have since engaged in aggressive efforts to contain the fire. Despite these efforts, the fire’s progression has not yet been halted. As of the last update at 4:30 p.m., resources deployed to the site include six engines, five airtankers, two helicopters, two water tenders, and four dozers, with additional resources on the way. Firefighting operations are set to continue throughout the night.

In response to the fire, evacuation measures have been implemented. Residents evacuating to the west are directed to the Chiloquin Community Center, which has been designated as an evacuation center. Those heading east on Sprague River Highway are advised to proceed to the town of Sprague River. The Sprague River Highway is currently closed between mile post 5 and Lone Pine at mile post 15.
