Three-Vehicle I-5 Collision Near Central Point Kills One

Central Point, Oregon- A three-vehicle collision occurred on Interstate 5 near milepost 38 in Jackson County on Saturday, August 17, 2024, resulting in the death of one individual. The Oregon State Police (OSP) responded to the scene at approximately 10 a.m.

The preliminary investigation by the OSP revealed that a white Toyota Corolla, driven by Susan Dale O’Connell, 73, of Talent, Oregon, was traveling northbound in the right lane when it suddenly slowed and turned left into the path of a northbound Ford F350 in the left lane. The Ford, operated by Jeffrey Scott Trouslot, 49, of Klamath Falls, was unable to avoid a collision and struck the driver-side door of the Toyota.

The impact caused the front passenger tire of the Ford to detach and roll northbound, where it struck a white Chevrolet Silverado on the rear driver side. The Silverado was driven by Sergio Cervantes Valencia, 44, of Turlock, California.

Susan O’Connell was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

The Oregon State Police were assisted at the scene by Jackson County Fire, Mercy Flights, and the Oregon Department of Transportation. The investigation is ongoing.
