Salt Creek Fire Mapped at 3300 Acres, Containment at 2%

Near Eagle Point, Oregon- Crews working overnight on the Salt Creek Fire have made significant strides, increasing containment to 2%. Cooler nighttime temperatures enabled firefighters to tie together, build, and improve lines around the fire. Updated mapping after an overnight infrared flight now places the fire’s size at approximately 3,300 acres.

Today, firefighting resources will concentrate on holding and securing existing lines and constructing new ones where feasible. The fire’s progression is largely influenced by the region’s vegetation and topography, with steep terrain and draws presenting ongoing challenges. Hazardous trees and the risk of dehydration remain significant threats to firefighter safety. No accidents or injuries have been reported at this time.

IMT 1 Incident Commander Joe Hessel commended local firefighting efforts, stating, “Crews made great progress working to construct and improve line. Your local initial attack crews gave the team an amazing head start. Now, our goal is to finish the job as safely as possible.”

Level 1 “BE READY” evacuations, issued by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management, remain in effect for certain zones. Detailed evacuation information is available at: https://protect.genasys.com/.

The Salt Creek Fire, located 10 miles east of Eagle Point, was first reported on Sunday, July 7, shortly after 4 p.m. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
