Near Jacksonville, Oregon- This morning at approximately 11:30 AM, a grassfire broke out on the 500 block of Little Applegate Road. The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF), Applegate Valley Fire District, and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) responded to the incident. First reported as a smoke investigation, the situation was quickly upgraded to a grassfire as firefighting crews arrived on the scene.
The fire was initially estimated at a quarter acre in size. However, shifting winds caused the fire to grow slightly before it was successfully contained at one acre.
Fire crews are currently conducting mop-up operations to ensure all hot spots are fully extinguished. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Authorities urge the public to be cautious, as fires can easily start and spread in warm, windy conditions. Residents are advised to follow current fire regulations to help prevent future incidents. More information can be found at Southwest Oregon Fire Public Restrictions.
