Ashland Shooting Suspect Arrested and Charged

On March 12, 2024, at approximately 8:19 p.m., officers from the Ashland Police Department responded to a complaint of a menacing involving a handgun in the vicinity of Faith Street and Ashland Street. The victim reported that a known suspect had discharged two rounds from a handgun in their direction. Subsequent investigations led to the apprehension of the suspect, Kyle Anthony Smith, 24 years old, at his residence near Emigrant Lake. Smith was taken into custody without further incident and has been charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Menacing.

According to the victim’s statement to law enforcement, they were confronted by the suspect, who then allegedly fired two rounds from a handgun in their direction. Fortunately, no injuries or property damage were reported as a result of the incident. Despite initial attempts by responding officers to locate the suspect, they were unsuccessful.

However, the case was later assumed by the department’s Criminal Investigation Division on March 13, 2024. Following investigative efforts, the suspect, Kyle Anthony Smith, was located at his residence on HWY 66 near Emigrant Lake. Smith cooperated with authorities upon apprehension and was subsequently lodged at the Jackson County Jail.

During the arrest, law enforcement officials recovered two handguns from the suspect’s possession. However, authorities have been unable to determine where the shots fired during the incident landed.

Smith now faces charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Menacing. The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Ashland Police Department.


All suspects are believed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
