Myrtle Creek, Oregon- On March 1, 2024, tragedy struck in Myrtle Creek as a single vehicle crash claimed the life of a teenager from Riddle. At approximately 10:30 pm, Douglas County 9-1-1 dispatchers received a report of the incident in the 15000-block of North Myrtle Road.
Deputies responded to the scene to find a 2006 Mazda sedan, which had been traveling westbound at high speed despite poor weather conditions. The driver, identified as 17-year-old Brooke Leeann Dubuc of Myrtle Creek, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll several times before colliding with a tree.
The impact proved fatal for one passenger, 17-year-old Jonathan Wylie Rosenstiel of Riddle, who was ejected from the vehicle and trapped beneath it upon coming to a stop. Despite the efforts of emergency medical services, Rosenstiel succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Another passenger, 19-year-old Avorie Dunsmore from Canyonville, managed to free themselves from the wreckage and, along with Dubuc, was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with information about the events leading up to the incident to contact the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at (541) 440-4471, referencing case #24-1140.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from various agencies including the Myrtle Creek Police Department, Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, Umpqua Valley Ambulance, Myrtle Creek Fire Department, and Joe’s Towing in managing the aftermath of the tragic event.
