Medford, Oregon- The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) is urging heightened awareness among residents and businesses following a recent surge in skid steer thefts across Southern Oregon. Over the past month, JCSO has received approximately 10 reports of stolen skid steers, prompting concerns within the community.
The thieves have been targeting unsecured skid steers that are left in plain sight, often cutting out the installed GPS units to avoid detection. These brazen thefts have left both individuals and businesses reeling, prompting authorities to issue a warning to owners to take necessary precautions.
In light of these incidents, JCSO is advising skid steer owners to implement enhanced security measures, including proper securing of vehicles and, if feasible, keeping them out of sight from potential thieves.
Additionally, authorities are urging owners to record the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of their skid steers, as this information can significantly aid law enforcement in identifying stolen equipment upon recovery.
JCSO is appealing to the community for assistance in combating these thefts. Individuals with any information pertaining to stolen skid steers are encouraged to reach out to investigators through the Sheriff’s Office mobile application’s “Submit a Tip” feature. Additionally, information can be relayed to authorities by calling the JCSO Tip Line at (541) 774-8333.
As law enforcement agencies work to investigate these incidents and apprehend those responsible, residents and businesses are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly.
