Eagle Point Police Department Reports Surge in DUII Arrests

Eagle Point, Oregon– The Eagle Point Police Department witnessed an unprecedented rise in DUII cases and arrests during the past year, with 61 impaired driving arrests in 2023 compared to the 27 recorded in 2022. Notably, this surge in enforcement efforts is poised to continue into 2024.

The statistics reveal a significant increase in DUII arrests, underscoring the department’s commitment to ensuring the safety of the community. These arrests were primarily made during routine patrol shifts, and the department acknowledges the crucial support received from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). Dedicated funding allowed officers to extend their efforts during holidays and high-traffic periods, effectively curbing impaired driving incidents.

Despite the new year, the first DUII arrest for 2024 occurred just after midnight on January 1st, indicating that the concerning trend persists. Eagle Point Police Department emphasizes its determination to reduce crashes and injuries resulting from impaired driving throughout the coming year.

Collaborative efforts are underway, with Eagle Point Police Department actively engaging in focused enforcement alongside partner agencies in Jackson County during 2024. Recognizing the escalating issue of DUII arrests across Jackson County law enforcement agencies, there is a collective effort to address the growing concern with increased focus and enforcement.

An intriguing aspect of these enforcement statistics is the concentrated effort of a select group of officers. Out of the 61 arrests in 2023, a mere eight officers were responsible, with three officers achieving double-digit arrest figures. The commitment is further underscored by three officers who were not part of the department for the entire year, illustrating the dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of Eagle Point residents.
