Crucial City of Medford Paving Projects Begin February 2024

Medford,Oregon- In a recent session, the City Council greenlit a $403,973.80 contract with Knife River Materials, Inc. to address failed pavement areas across eight crucial city streets. These repairs aim to enhance the quality of urban infrastructure and ensure a smoother commute for residents.

The identified streets for rehabilitation include:

  • Crater Lake Avenue from Delta Waters Road to Vilas Road
  • West Jackson Street from West McAndrews Road to South Central Avenue
  • East Jackson Street from Oregon Terrace to Valley View Drive
  • East Jackson Street from Crater Lake Avenue to Mae Street
  • West Main Street from Oak Grove Road to Columbus Avenue
  • Spring Street from Wabash Avenue to Sunrise Avenue
  • Sunrise Avenue from East Jackson Street to Spring Street
  • Table Rock Road from North Pacific Highway to Merriman Road

Annually, the City strategically outsources a significant portion of pavement maintenance to supplement the efforts of Public Works crews. This approach to street maintenance is not only a cost-effective measure but also a means of deferring more extensive reconstructions, ultimately saving on long-term maintenance expenses.

The repair scope involves grinding out deteriorated asphalt sections to a depth of 2.5 to 4 inches, contingent on pavement condition, followed by the application of new asphalt. The City’s Pavement Management Analysis Report played an important role in pinpointing the sections in most need of these asphalt repairs.

Funding for this initiative will be drawn from Fund 500, specifically the Street Utility Fund outlined in the 2023-25 biennial budget.

The start of asphalt work is slated for after February 1, 2024, with completion scheduled by May 9, 2024.
