Eagle Point Area Crash Injures Two Children, Driver Arrested for DUII

Eagle Point, Oregon- Last night, in rural Eagle Point a single-vehicle DUII crash left a 5-year-old child in serious condition at a local hospital. The driver, Amanda Lynn Padilla, 36, of Eagle Point, now faces a litany of charges in connection with the incident.

At 10:23 p.m., ECSO Dispatch received a distress call reporting a motor vehicle crash near the intersection of Rogue River Drive and Buckingham Circle. Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies, Fire District 3, and Mercy Flights discovered a single-vehicle crash with two injured children, aged 5 and 2.

A Mercy Flights helicopter transported the 5-year-old, suffering from serious injuries, to a local hospital, where they remain in serious condition. Simultaneously, an ambulance transported the 2-year-old, with lesser injuries, to another local hospital.

The alleged driver, Amanda Lynn Padilla, exhibited signs of impairment, leading JCSO deputies to arrest her on the scene. Padilla now faces charges including second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII) – alcohol, reckless driving, and reckless endangering. She is currently lodged in the Jackson County Jail.

In response to the severity of the incident, the Jackson County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team, accompanied by the Jackson County District Attorney’s office, arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. Initial findings point to a lack of proper child restraints as a significant contributing factor to the injuries sustained by the children.

The STAR Team, a collaborative interagency unit comprising investigators from JCSO and the Medford Police Department, specializes in probing serious and fatal crashes in Jackson County. The case is currently under continued investigation, and no additional information is available for release at this time.
