Oregon Man Dies After Collision with Delivery Van

Salem, Oregon – Authorities report that on Saturday evening, Kiristian Murauo, 23, lost his life after being struck by a delivery truck while attempting to cross a road in the Salem area.

The collision occurred at approximately 7:50 p.m. on December 2, when the driver of a delivery van, Justin Rodriguez, 35, reported hitting what he believed to be a pedestrian. Salem Police responded to the scene, where they discovered Mr. Murauo’s lifeless body off the west shoulder of the roadway.

Preliminary findings from the Salem Police Traffic Team indicate that Murauo was crossing Cordon Rd when he was struck by the delivery van in the northbound lane. The investigation revealed the absence of a lawful pedestrian crossing and overhead street lighting in the vicinity of the tragic incident.

Despite the circumstances, Rodriguez remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators. North and southbound traffic on Cordon Rd at the overpass experienced a three-hour interruption to facilitate the investigation and clear the scene.

As of now, no arrest has been made, and no citations have been issued, as the collision remains under active investigation. Authorities have not released any additional information related to the incident.

Officials state this marks the 13th fatality resulting from 12 fatal collisions investigated by the Salem Police Department in 2023.
