Suspect Rolls Van After High-Speed Pursuit Near I5

A suspect attempted to evade authorities during a routine traffic stop in White City, ultimately leading to a high-speed pursuit and arrest. The incident unfolded when 38-year-old Anthony Leonard of Williams was pulled over for expired registration in the parking lot of the White City Dollar Tree.

Deputies initially noticed that Leonard appeared to be under the influence, and when questioned, he provided a false name. Without warning, Leonard abruptly sped away in his green full-size GMC van, leaving deputies in pursuit. Due to the dangerous combination of high vehicle traffic and Leonard’s reckless driving, deputies chose not to immediately engage in the chase.

The van was later spotted on E. Gregory Road, traveling westbound. The pursuit began when Leonard ignored emergency lights and sirens, prompting a chase that led through side streets to Kirtland Road and eventually onto northbound I-5.

Around mile post 39 on the freeway, Leonard attempted to exit onto Blackwell Road but lost control and crashed through a fence. Fortunately, no one else was in the vehicle, and no injuries were reported.

Subsequent investigation revealed that Leonard had admitted to using multiple drugs, including Fentanyl, prior to attempting to evade the authorities. Additionally, he had an outstanding arrest warrant for Burglary in Josephine County.

Following the crash, Leonard was taken into custody and transported to Providence Medford Medical Crater for medical clearance and a blood draw.

In addition to the existing warrant, he now faces fresh charges, including Felony Elude, DUII, Reckless Driving, and Giving False Information to a Police Officer. Leonard has been lodged at the Jackson County Jail, awaiting further legal proceedings.
