OSP Trooper and Motorist Struck During Traffic Stop

On Thursday, October 26, 2023, at around 7:30 a.m., an Oregon State Police patrol sergeant found themselves in a perilous situation while conducting a routine traffic stop on Highway 138E, facing westbound near milepost 10, in Douglas County.

As the trooper was engaged in the traffic stop, an eastbound motorist collided head-on with the vehicle that had been pulled over. The operator of the stopped vehicle sustained critical injuries in the collision, while the patrol sergeant emerged with only minor injuries.

The suspect behind the wheel of the striking vehicle also suffered minor injuries. All three individuals involved were transported for medical evaluation and treatment.

Due to the ongoing criminal investigation, officials are not releasing many more details. The Oregon State Police is leading the investigation into the potential impairment of the suspected driver who caused the crash.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has also started an investigation to piece together the circumstances leading to this collision.
