On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 6:05 p.m., a crash occurred on Highway 138E, near milepost 21, in Douglas County. The Oregon State Police (OSP) responded to a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of the driver.
Preliminary findings from the investigation revealed that a Ford F-350, driven by 70-year-old Douglas Floyd, a resident of Middleton, Idaho, was heading westbound when tragedy struck. The vehicle lost control, veered off the roadway, and collided with a tree. The impact was severe, and immediate assistance was required to extricate the occupants from the wreckage.
First responders worked for several minutes to free the trapped individuals from the mangled vehicle. Subsequently, those involved in the accident were rushed to a local hospital for medical attention.
Officials report that Douglas Floyd, the operator of the Ford F-350, succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased upon arrival at the hospital.
A passenger in the Ford, identified as 62-year-old Kimberly Colleen Floyd, also from Middleton, Idaho, emerged with minor injuries.
Authorities say that during the on-scene investigation, highway traffic remained unaffected.
OSP received assistance from various agencies, including the Glide Fire Department, Umpqua Ambulance, and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).
