In a collaborative effort between Oregon State Police detectives and the Connecticut State Police, a murder suspect was apprehended in Josephine County on October 4, 2023. Christopher Suarez, aged 31, was arrested and booked into the Josephine County Jail on a nationwide warrant related to a murder case in Connecticut that transpired in February of the same year.
The investigation leading to Suarez’s arrest uncovered his association with an illegal marijuana cultivation operation situated in the Merlin area. Law enforcement officers, in coordination with the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office and Josephine County District Attorney’s Office, executed a search warrant on the illegal marijuana grow.
During the execution of the search warrant, a startling discovery was made. Four greenhouses housing 796 marijuana plants were located and subsequently destroyed. In addition to the illicit cannabis cultivation, law enforcement officers seized six grams of cocaine, three packages of methamphetamine, and unidentified orange pills from the location.
As the investigation unfolds, further details are being closely guarded due to its ongoing nature. The combined efforts between Oregon and Connecticut law enforcement agencies have resulted in the apprehension of a murder suspect and the dismantling of an illegal marijuana operation in Josephine County. Authorities say further developments in this case will be made available as they emerge.

A criminal complaint is only an accusation of a crime, and a suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
