Red Flag Warning Issued for Areas of the Rogue Valley

RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THURSDAY TO 8 AM PDT FRIDAY FOR ABUNDANT LIGHTNING ON DRY FUELS FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES 618, 619, 620, AND 621.

Abundant lightning on dry fuels is anticipated Thursday through Thursday night.

An upper level wave will move into the region from the south on Thursday and Thursday night. Thunderstorms are anticipated to pop up across the region with the most activity along the coast. The coast missed out on the rain from the remnants of Hurricane Hilary and the threat for new fire ignitions is highest in that location. Other locations across southern Oregon and northern California still have the potential to see thunderstorms Thursday through Thursday night.

The National Weather Service in Medford has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from 5 PM Thursday to 8 AM Friday.
