Teen Driver Crashes Car Into NE Medford House

At approximately 4:49p on Wednesday July 26th, emergency services from Medford Police (MPD), Medford Fire (MFD), and Mercy Flights (MFI) were dispatched to the corner of Springbrook Drive and Bronte Circle in northeast Medford following reports of a car crashing into a nearby house.

According to 911 callers, a silver car lost control on Springbrook Road, jumped a curb, and collided with the house, causing extensive damage to a bathroom and an outdoor AC unit. The incident took place while the house was occupied, raising immediate concern for the residents’ safety.

Just feet away from where the car crashed through te wall, there were three teenagers inside a room playing video games. The parent of one the teens inside the house (who was visiting their friend) told Medford Alert, “The outcome could have been much different. It’s honestly a miracle they’re unhurt.”

The driver was identified as a teenager; however, their name will not be disclosed at this time.

First responders swiftly arrived at the scene and closed the southbound lane of Springbrook Road, just north of Bronte Circle, to provide a safe working environment for the responding crews.

A witness told Medford Alert, they observed the silver car lose control before it struck the house with force, smashing through a wall and causing substantial damage to the structure.

Following comprehensive efforts by Medford Fire and Mercy Flights, both units were released from the scene approximately an hour after the initial callout.

Police continue to investigate the incident to determine the factors contributing to the accident.

UPDATE: Officers learned that the vehicle was being driven by a 16-year-old and had a 15-year-old passenger. Based on statements and behavior at the scene, there was not initially thought to be any major injury to either of the juveniles. However, the 15-year-old was taken to a local medical facility by family and found to have injuries that were more serious that initially thought. He was flown outside of the Rogue Valley for treatment. There is no update on his condition at this time and due to the ages of the involved parties, no names will be released. It is believed that speed was a factor in this crash and other causes are still under investigation. Due to the injury to the passenger and the circumstances surrounding the event, members of the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction team are currently conducting this investigation, which is on-going at this time. Officials say the exact cause of this crash is still under investigation.
