In a shocking incident that unfolded on Friday morning, June 16, 2023, Douglas County authorities were alerted to a shooting at a residence in the 100-block of Adams Loop near Roseburg. The incident has resulted in the tragic death of a 47-year-old Roseburg resident, Amy Jo Coder.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the distress call, discovering Amy Jo Coder at the scene with a gunshot wound. She was promptly transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center before being transferred to an out-of-area hospital. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Coder succumbed to her injuries on Sunday afternoon.
Investigating deputies wasted no time in identifying the alleged assailant as David Foster Coder, a 65-year-old resident of Myrtle Creek and the victim’s father-in-law. Within half an hour of the initial 9-1-1 call, law enforcement apprehended David Foster Coder and took him into custody.
Initially, David Foster Coder faced charges of Attempted Murder, Assault I, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. However, as the investigation unfolded and the victim tragically lost her life, the charges were modified to include Murder.
The homicide case is now being handled by the Douglas County Major Crimes Team, with the Sheriff’s Office leading the investigation. The Douglas County Major Crimes Team is comprised of skilled investigators from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Roseburg Police Department, and Oregon State Police, working in close collaboration with the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.
