Firefighters Work Structure Fire Near Barneburg Hill

This is a developing incident. Medford Alert will continue to monitor and update as new information becomes available.

At approximately 4:56p today, multiple calls were placed to ECSO 911 operators for a report of a possible structure fire on the 1300 block of La Loma Dr.

This is on the south-eastern slope of Barneburg Hill which is home to a sprawling Pacific Retirement campus. The structure involved is not believed to be a part of the campus, however.

Currently, firefighters are focusing on a single structure and are taking a defensive approach. There has been no spread to surrounding vegetation at this time.

Medford Fire, Medford Police and Pacific Power all have personnel on scene.

At this time there are street closures in the area and individuals are advised to avoid the area. Medford Police are limiting access as there are a number of onlookers.

6:30p Update: Medford Fire said that they plan on staying at the scene for an extended period to put out hot spots and ensure overall safety. There is no current threat to surrounding structures or vegetation.
