Firefighters Working New Wildfire Near Sams Valley Area

1:00P Update: The fire is now 100% lined and firefighters have begun mop-up efforts. Despite the steep slope, the fire was caught at just over 9.5 acres.

Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) currently has personnel engaged in attacking a fire that’s estimated to be between 10 and 15 acres near the right fork of Sardine Creek road, northwest of Sams Valley. The Elkhorn Butte Fire is burning on both BLM and private land in the area.

ODF was first alerted to the fire following a call to 911 around 11 pm last night. And was able to get firefighters to the scene around 1:30 am, and have been working to order additional resources ever since.

Today, four 20-person crews and numerous engines will be on scene and dedicated to the fire. Additional resources, including aircraft, will be ordered as needed.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

There are no homes threatened by this incident. Authorities say more information will be released as it becomes available.
