One Person Hospitalized in Crash That Closed Highway for Hours

At approximately 3:55p today, multiple emergency personnel were dispatched to North Pacific Highway (OR99) for a reported vehicle vs motorcycle crash in north Medford.

The crash took place between Elk Lane and Sage road. The incident closed all northbound lanes on OR99 for approximately 2 1/2 hours.

A Witness told Medford Alert that they saw a motorcycle quickly moving down the highway before it clipped the side of a vehicle that was in a turn lane leaving a nearby retail store.

The female driver and male passenger of the vehicle were not believed to have been injured and were fully cooperating with investigators on scene.

The motorcyclist was taken to a nearby Medford hospital with a number of serious injuries. At this time, there is no additional details regarding the riders condition.

Oregon State Police (OSP), Medford Police (MPD), Jackson County Fire District 3 (JCFD3), Mercy Flights (MFI), Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), and Medford Fire (MFD) were all dispatched to the scene. The Jackson County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) team was activated to assist OSP with the investigation.

At this time, the speed of the motorcycle is being investigated as a possible contributing factor. The driver of the vehicle involved was not believed to be under the influence of any intoxicants, however as the investigation moves forward, specific factors may change.
