Yesterday, at approximately 2 p.m. officers from the Ashland Police Department contacted a man in conjunction with an assault investigation. This contact occurred in Mountain View Cemetery on Ashland Street, in a transient encampment.
Officers contacted the subject noted below and, after interviewing him, advised him that he was under arrest for assault. While the officers were taking the suspect into custody the suspect turned on the arresting officer and assaulted him via punching him in the head. The suspect was immediately taken to the ground and arrested without further incident.
The arresting officer sustained minor injuries.
The original assault case involved the suspect attacking another man at Pioneer Hall on April 14th at approximately 3:57 p.m., as both men participated in an meal distribution program. In the original assault the suspect attacked the victim with a folding chair, leading to the weapons charge noted below.
The suspect is identified as Kevin Michael Hyde, a 25 year old male subject with a listed address at an Ashland area motel.
As of this articles publication, Hyde remains in custody at the Jackson County Jail on charges of Attempted Assault of a Peace Officer, Assault in the 2nd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Resisting Arrest and Assault in the 4th Degree Misdemeanor.

A criminal complaint is only an accusation of a crime, and a suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
