Man Sentenced for 2020 Hotel Room Killing of Acquaintance

The Jackson County District Attorney’s Office yesterday today that Jackson Frischman pled guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree for ending Jeffrey Blackwood’s life.

Mr. Frischman was sentenced by the Honorable Judge Moser to twelve years in the Oregon Department of Corrections with three years of post-prison supervision and restitution for funeral costs.

The charge arose from an assault that occurred in the Best Western in South Medford on December 6, 2020.

Officers from the Medford Police Department responded to a report that two men had been involved in a fight in the hotel room, and one of the males was unresponsive.

Officers discovered Jeffrey Blackwood deceased in the hotel room as a result of extensive head wounds. Mr. Frischman was taken into custody and the bat used in the assault was secured by law enforcement.

The State and the defense reached a plea agreement, and the victim’s family was included in the plea negotiation. At sentencing, both Mr. Blackwood’s sister and father spoke about the impact this crime had and continues to have on their family. Mr. Blackwood’s sister made a heartfelt testimony of her brother’s life, and the loss she and her family feel every day. Mr. Frischman apologized to the family for his actions.
