Street Racing Blamed for Deadly Oregon Crash

On Saturday at approximately 11:52 p.m. officers from the Portland Police North Precinct division responded to the 5900 block of North Marine Drive on a report of a two vehicle crash with one of the vehicles being on fire.

Officers arrived and located the two involved vehicles. Three people from the crash were transported to area hospitals for life threatening injuries. Due to the extent of the injuries, the Major Crash Team was activated to respond.

Investigators with Portland’s Traffic Investigations Unit (TIU) have determined this crash to have been the result of speed racing. Both vehicles were traveling at a very high rate of speed when they lost control and crashed, injuring the two drivers and one passenger.

The driver of one of the cars died of their injuries while in the hospital. The identity of the deceased driver will be released after family members have been notified.
