On Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 11:42a.m., Portland Police Bureau officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 3300 block of North Interstate Avenue.
They located an injured victim and provided trauma first aid. They also located a tent that was actively burning. Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R) and American Medical Response Paramedics arrived to treat the patient and extinguish the fire.

The victim was transported to the hospital by ambulance with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The suspect left the scene before responders arrived and no immediate arrests were made.
Due to initial information gathered at the scene, Detectives with the Portland Police Major Crimes Unit responded, as well as the Portland Fire Investigation Unit. During the investigation, the right lane of southbound I-5 interchange to southbound I-405 (the approach to the Fremont Bridge) was blocked, but since reopened.
