Bend Man Arrested as Suspect in Summertime Sex Crimes

On Sunday, Aug. 21, Bend Police responded to a report of a sex crime that had occurred somewhere in the city of Bend the previous evening.

Three women visiting from out of town reported that they had been drinking at Seven nightclub on Bond Street in downtown Bend on Saturday, Aug. 20. At some point in the evening, one of the women was separated from the other two and returned to the group’s Airbnb.

The other two women reported blacking out, though they did not believe they’d had enough to drink to cause a blackout. They woke up on Sunday morning in a motel room with a man they didn’t know, who drove them back to their Airbnb. One of the women remembered being placed in handcuffs and gagged during the night, and she had evidence of bruising on her wrists, chest and neck. The women did not know what motel they’d been in.

Over the course of several months, officers investigated the incident and worked to identify the suspect.

They were able to obtain video surveillance of a man, later identified as Quinlan Ribeiro, in various locations, ultimately ending up at the Sugarloaf Motel at approximately 3:50 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21.

On Dec. 13, Bend Police executed a search warrant at Ribeiro’s home and car in Terrebonne and found additional evidence of Ribeiro’s suspected crimes.

Ribeiro was arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 14 and lodged at the Deschutes County Jail on charges of first-degree sex abuse, fourth-degree assault, coercion and strangulation.

All suspects are considered innocent until any/all charges are proven true against them in a court of law.
