A Gold Hill man was sideswiped by a passing semi-truck last night near mile 29 on southbound Interstate 5 (I5). At approximately 8:06p, ECSO 911 dispatchers received a call of a person that was hit by a truck on I5, in the north Medford area.

The caller continued to follow the semi-truck southbound on I5, in order to help aid authorities. Multiple law enforcement units were attempting to locate the truck near mile 6 on southbound I5, but due to snow and truck backups, were unable to narrow down the specific semi. At last report, the truck was outstanding,
Medford Police (MPD), Medford Fire (MFD), Oregon State Police (OSP), and Mercy Fights ground ambulance all responded to the scene.
The victim was treated on scene for injuries that included a large laceration on his back. He was eventually transported to a nearby hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
An OSP spokesperson told Medford Alert that due to the dynamics of the crash, it’s possible the semi-truck driver was unaware that they had hit anyone. At the time of the crash, conditions were dark and raining.
At this time, there is no additional information regarding the semi-truck drivers location or any potential charges that they may face.
Medford Alert will continue to monitor this incident and provide updates as they become available.
