Search and Rescue Teams Mobilized for Missing Hunters

Jackson County Search and Rescue (SAR) teams have been activated to assist in the search for two missing individuals in the Prospect area.

The missing couple is believed to have originally left for a daylong hunting trip. They have now been gone for three days, according to family members. Their truck, along with a dog were located at Huckleberry Campground outside of Prospect.

A source told Medford Alert that Mercy Flights air support is also being briefed this morning, in anticipation of any future possible medical rescue needs. Crews are on standby until the missing couple is found.

11:53a UPDATE: Because this search is now over 24 hrs CORSAR (California, Oregon Search and Rescue) has been activated. This brings search teams in from Coos, Douglas, Curry, Del Norte, Josephine, Jackson, Klamath, and Siskiyou Counties. Over 1000+ searchers and equipment. No civilian volunteers are needed at this time. It’s rare that they bring in the general public help because additional people have gotten lost in the past and it consumes more resources.

12:02p UPDATE: Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue (SAR) confirmed they are looking for two missing hunters in the Huckleberry Mountain area nearby Prospect, Ore.

SAR began searching the area yesterday with K9, vehicles, and a ground team. SAR personnel searched through the night but have been unable to locate the hunters.

This morning SAR initiated another callout to assist with the search including ATV, mounted horseback, ground hikers, vehicles, and drone.

Conditions in the area are cold and rainy with low clouds making searching difficult and limiting air operations. California Oregon Regional Search and Rescue Task Force (CORSAR) is on scene assisting with the search. More information to follow.

3:15p UPDATE: A source has just confirmed to Medford Alert that both missing individuals have been found alive. No additional information is available at this moment.
