On October 4, 2022, at 3:18pm, the California Highway Patrol Yreka Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call of a single vehicle crash on southbound 1-5, at the Yreka Creek Bridge.
The 9-1-1 caller indicated the vehicle ran off the road and would be difficult to see from the freeway. Workers at the Klamath National Forrest Service building heard the crash and located the vehicle in the Yreka Creek Greenway.

CHP Officers arrived on scene and attempted to assist the driver. The driver, a 29 year old female of Medford, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver was located without a seatbelt on.
The California Highway Patrol, Yreka Area Office wants to remind everyone, your chance of surviving a crash increases by more than 50% just by wearing a seatbelt.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, it is unknown at this time if alcohol is a factor. No additional information is available at this time.
