5:00p UPDATE: ODF states that due to the rural nature of the fire, access is still ongoing. Additional air support has been affected. Fire is now estimated to be at five acres. Smoke from the fire is now visible from much of the Rogue Valley.

EVENING UPDATE: Radio traffic indicates the fire is around 10 acres tonight. All air support was grounded just before dusk. Overnight crews have been ordered by incident command, very difficult terrain to access. We expect additional information in the morning.

No homes are threatened and there are no current evacuations at this time. Medford Alert will continue to monitor this fire and provide updates as they become available.

Earlier today, at approximately 12:55p, Medford Fire (MFD) and Medford Police (MPD) units were dispatched to a vegetation fire in south Medford.

911 dispatchers received several calls from the public stating there was a fire near mile 19.3 on the Bear Creek Greenway (BCG). The fire was also confirmed by ODF fire cameras.

Upon arrival, the first MFD brush team requested additional units as the fire was approximately 1/4 acre and moving through heavy vegetation.

Shortly after additional units arrived, MFD on scene command stated forward movement of the fire had been stopped. Incoming ODF support units were canceled. Mop up duties were performed by MFD personnel and all units were cleared by 1:43p.

There were no evacuations issued and no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is being investigated at this time.
