On September 10, 2022, at 7:20 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a rollover crash on SW Scholls Sherwood Rd. near SW Stark Rd., just outside of Sherwood. A witness reported seeing a BMW SUV speeding over 90 miles per hour before the driver went across the oncoming lane of traffic and into the ditch where the SUV rolled over.
Deputies identified the driver as 52-year-old James Lash II of Wilsonville. He was the only person in the SUV and paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene. The inter-agency Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) responded to lead the investigation.
At 9:45 p.m., many of the same deputies also responded to a head-on crash on Highway 99 north of SW Langer Farms Pkwy., just north of Sherwood. Witnesses to that crash reported a silver Lexus 300 was driving south in the northbound lanes where the driver hit a silver Hyundai Sonata head-on. All four people in the Hyundai were hospitalized, several with serious injuries.
The CART investigators also responded to that scene. The woman driving the Lexus and her passenger were both hospitalized. Investigators determined the driver’s blood alcohol content (BAC) was 0.19, over twice the legal limit. Criminal charges are pending the conclusion of the investigation.
The Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) is a multi-agency team of specially trained law enforcement officers from the Sheriff’s Office, local police departments and the Washington County District Attorney’s Office. The team investigates and reconstructs traffic crashes that may result in the prosecution of felony assault or manslaughter charges. The team can also assist with diagramming crime scenes.
