Shortly after 8:55p tonight, 911 dispatch received a number of calls regarding a possible grass fire near the corner of Lynn and Gore in northwest Medford.

Upon arrival, crews confirmed the fire and added additional units onto the callout. Originally, the fire was approximately 20ft X 20ft, but spread quickly due to the dry vegetation.
Medford Fire, Jackson County Fire District 3, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, and Medford Police all responded to the fire.
Officials are treating this as a suspicious incident, multiple officers and at least one fire investigator are working the scene for clues on where and how the fire started.

At 9:30p, firefighters were dousing hot spots and performing mop up of the approximately 1/2 acre fire. There are no current evacuations in place.
Officers are also actively talking to anyone in the area that might have witnessed the start of the fire. This fire took place in an area that has had a history of grass fires that have been human caused. This area was the site of a suspicious grass fire back in July of this year as well.
At 10:50p, all remaining fire personnel cleared the scene. There is no current threat to surrounding structures or vegetation.
As the investigation continues, Medford Alert will continue to monitor and provide updates as the become available.
