JaCo Search and Rescue Evacuates PCT Hikers From McKinney Fire Danger

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) Search And Rescue (SAR) and Rogue Valley Transportation District (RVTD) personnel assisted 60 people off the PCT on the California side of the Red Buttes Wilderness this afternoon.

JCSO SAR personnel assisted, directed or transported the hikers from Road Junction 1055 to Seattle Bar at Applegate Lake. From there two RVTD buses transported them to Medford and Ashland at their request. The rescue team consisted of one JCSO deputy, three SAR volunteers, and four RVTD personnel.

Today SAR volunteers are also currently assisting Siskiyou County Sheriff Search and Rescue with evacuations.

JCSO reminds the public that fire conditions can change any minute SO BE READY. There are NO evacuations currently in Jackson County. However, we are moving into a weekend of RED FLAG fire risk conditions and lightning. This means new fires could start and change conditions quickly. This is a good time to work on your family’s preparedness and monitoring together.
