An armed suspect in a domestic violence incident was shot during an officer involved shooting in the Centennial neighborhood of Portland early this morning.
On 7/24/2022 at approximately 12:06 AM, officers from the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct responded to the area of SE 148th Ave and SE Clinton St on a report of a male and female physically fighting.
While attempting to arrest the male suspect, a shot was fired by the suspect, resulting in an officer returning fire. The suspect was declared deceased at the scene.
Per policy, the Portland Police Homicide Unit is on scene and investigating.
Officials say the investigation into this incident is ongoing. Investigators are expected to be on scene for several hours collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.
“I’m glad our officers are okay, and this highlights how dangerous this job can be,” said Chief Lovell, who responded to the scene.
The Mayor’s office was also notified of this incident.
As part of the use of force review process, the Bureau will conduct an internal review of the entire incident, including the initial response, resources requested, tactics used, and post shooting actions. The case will go before the Police Review Board (PRB), which is composed of community members, Bureau members, and representatives from the Independent Police Review Division.
