At approximately 8:40p on 7/15/22, emergency dispatchers received a call from a concerned citizen. The individual told 911 operators that they could hear a person in distress from their nearby hotel room. The caller stated they thought that someone was being stabbed at the Veterans Park, near the corner of S. Pacific Hwy and E. Stewart Ave.
Multiple Medford Police (MPD) units were dispatched to the scene. Arriving units assisted the victim while additional MPD officers began gathering statements from potential witnesses. A nearby Mercy Flights ambulance was staging nearby and accessed the scene to treat the victim after MPD secured the area. The victim was eventually transported to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center.
Officers were able to get a description of the male suspect and his getaway vehicle. It was described as a 1988 tan and brown Winnebago-style RV. During the search for the suspect and his vehicle, an Oregon State Police (OSP) Trooper believed to see a RV that matched the description at the Suncrest Rest Area located on southbound I5. Several Medford Police units also converged on a RV matching the suspects vehicle at a motel along Alba Drive. Both of those vehicles turned out to not be the suspect, and were cleared.
During the investigation, a MPD officer believed they had contact with the suspect and his RV back in May during an unrelated incident near downtown Medford. Based on that information, officers were able to get a plate number of the suspects RV, along with several pictures of the suspect. This aided MPD units in their search for the RV and suspect.
At approximately 9:12p, a MPD unit spotted a RV matching the description at shopping center near King Street and W. Stewart Ave. The officer was able to get a positive match and confirm it was the suspects RV using the license plate that was previously sent out to law units. The RV turned out to be unoccupied as additional MPD units arrived in the area to attempt to locate the suspect. The male suspect had a number of distinguishing tattoos, according to scanner traffic between officials.
A Medford Police unit was able to obtain updated photos of the suspect, and what he was wearing, from a nearby dry cleaners video surveillance system. Those images were sent to officers canvassing the area looking for the suspect. Shortly before 10:00p, Medford Police relayed to dispatchers that they had a suspect in custody.
The suspect is believed to be 44 year old, Jose Antonio Marrero Delgado. He is currently lodged at the Jackson County Jail, and facing multiple charges including 2nd Degree Assault and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. At this time he is not eligible for Bail.
