Central Oregon Man Dies in Single Motorcycle Crash

At 2:28 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, Bend Police responded to a report of a single-vehicle motorcycle crash at the corner of NW Riverside Boulevard and NW Tumalo Avenue. 

Upon arrival, officers found community members on scene performing CPR on the motorcyclist. The motorcycle, a 2021 Kawasaki Ninja, was partially on top of the victim. Officers continued CPR until medics arrived and took over, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness told officers that the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on Galveston Avenue at a high rate of speed, failed to negotiate the corner onto Riverside Boulevard, and crashed. 

Bend Police activated its crash reconstruction team, which responded to investigate the incident. Riverside Boulevard was shut down from Idaho Avenue to Riverfront Street with assistance from the City of Bend Streets and Operations Division. The road reopened at 6 a.m.

The victim has been identified as Roy Lee Leonard, a 39-year-old Bend resident. Next of kin has been notified.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and no additional information is available.
