Airport Finishes Year Strong as Passengers Continue to Return

The Rogue Valley International Medford Airport (MFR) finished the year on a strong note of continued passenger growth.

The regional airport saw a nearly 56% boost in 2021 December passengers, when compared to the previous pandemic stricken year.

For the month of December, MFR saw a total of 69,146 passenger fly in and out of the regional airport.

For the entire 2021 year, MFR continued to see the return of fliers. A total of 886,670 passengers used the Medford Airport. That’s up 74% from the COVID low of 509,624 passengers in 2020. However, 2021 was still short of the pre-pandemic high of 1,087,873 passengers set in 2019.

For Oregon commercial airports, Portland International Airport (PDX) continued to hold a wide margin of passenger traffic over the other airports in the state. The Eugene Airport (EUG) came in second, and MFR rounded out the states top three, when it came to total passenger usage. The Redmond Airport (RDM) and the SW Oregon Regional Airport (OTH), finished the passenger year totals in fourth and fifth places respectively.

MFR saw two new carriers in 2021, as Avelo Air and aha! Air, both began servicing the airport. As passengers totals continue to climb back to pre-pandemic levels, the Jackson County Airport Authority is in the midst of updating their masterplan. This includes studies into future terminal expansion, along with additional ramps and jetways for increased aircraft activity. Along with the planning for more easterly flying routes

As more information becomes available, we will continue to update the growth of the Medford Airport.
